Times are changing, and at the shop we are doing our best to keep our store completely sanitized and safe. We're adjusting to the changing patterns and trying to move more of our business online. We're going through lots of hand soap and trying our best to make sure we have adequate levels of toilet paper stocked (who knew that would survival item #1?).
But with all of the worry and stress, and there seems to be a lot of that to go around, we decided to try and focus on the positives that come from this time. Social Distancing and self-quartatining can lead to some unique opportunities we don't always get in our busy daily lives. From reading those books that never got opened, learning a new hobby, or most importantly - spending extra quality time with the family: let's try and make the most of this time as we face new challenges together!
HIT THE TRAILS
It's recommended to keep 6 ft away from people and as always, wash your hands, avoid touching your face, and stay home if showing any symptoms.
But, this is a great time to get out with the family and pets to spend some time outdoors! We have so many great trails around Oklahoma City, here's some great beginner trails that are fun for the whole family:
1. Martin Nature Park
5000 W Memorial Rd
Oklahoma City, OK 73142
Located in North Oklahoma City, Martin Nature Parks rests on 140 acres next to Integris. Often on the trails you can find lots of birds, squirrels, deer, and more! Armadillos, possums, foxes, and more call this area home. The trails are well paved and easy to follow, even handicap accessible in most areas! This is great way to get outside for a few hours and explore nature with kids.
2. Chickasaw National Recreation Area
S of Sulphur
Sulphur, OK 73086
For a longer day trip, one and a half hours south of Oklahoma City is the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Known for the fun swimming holes from naturally spring fed pools, the Recreation Area also includes hiking, biking, and nature trails, camp sites, swimming beaches, and more! Be sure to stop by Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies for a treat on your way out!
3. Gloss Mountain State Park
North of Fairview off Hwy 412
Fairview, OK 73737
Another great area in Western Oklahoma for some new scenic views - be sure to catch a sunset from the plateau! Trails are easily marked and with a few stairs you'll end up high above the prairie where you can look for miles in every direction! 1 Hour west of Enid. If you take I-40 west, be sure to stop at the Cherokee Trading Post for some snacks on the way there!
4. Wichita Mountains
20539 State Hwy 115
Hwy 115 & 49 Junction
Lawton, OK 73505
Probably the most famous place to get outdoors in Oklahoma, a trip to the Wichita Mountains is always a favorite! From seeing Bison around the visitor's center to hitting some trails, there's trails for all levels and plenty to explore.
PICK UP A BOOK
Now's a great time to start catching up on your reading list for the year! We personally draw so much of our inspiration for the outdoors from some of our favorite books we've been reading since kids. Here's a few great reads to pick up during this time!
Spending time with family on the couch, with a big bowl of popcorn, is always a favorite for us on the weekends; when the kids are home and we can spend time together. For the rainy spring days in Oklahoma, movie night is a great time to stay inspired by the outdoors with these epic tales! These are our shop favorites:
SPEND TIME WITH YOUR PETS
We might not be as excited to spend more time cooped up indoors, but our pets are bound to be excited to see more of us! Be sure to get in those extra walks, time outside playing in the backyard, and giving extra treats. And if you don't have a pet, now might be the perfect time to foster or adopt! Be sure to check out these great organizations and see if you can help with the extra time around the house.
